    Every tutor begins with 50% off their rate for a family's first hour with them. It comes off your rate and nothing else, so you fund all of it. There's also a free hour when a family books 10 hours in one go, where you waive your rate and we waive our fee. Both are yours to change or switch off, on your dashboard, before your first booking.

  • Paid monthly

    At the end of the month, for every session you completed by the 21st. Later sessions go on the next month's run.

  • No commission

    Our fee is added on top of your rate to the family's price, never taken out of it. No joining fee, no listing fee, and no cut of what you earn.

Questions tutors ask us

When and how do I get paid?
Monthly, at the end of the month, for every session you completed by the 21st of that month. Anything after the 21st goes on the following month's run, which gives our payroll team the week they need to process it.
Who do I give my bank details to?
The umbrella company that employs and pays you, who will be in touch once you're cleared. They collect and hold those details, not us, and they operate PAYE on your pay, so tax and National Insurance come off before you receive it. CTS will never ask you for your account number, and you should treat anyone claiming to be us and asking for it as a scam.
How long does vetting take?
We don't promise a timeframe, because a lot of it depends on DBS turnaround, which is outside our control. We'll keep you posted at each stage, but you can't teach until every check has cleared.
Do I need a DBS check already?
No. We arrange an enhanced DBS check through our clearance team as part of vetting.
Do I need QTS?
No. Qualified teacher status is welcome but not required. Your subject knowledge and teaching experience are assessed at interview.
Can I choose my own hours?
Yes. You set your weekly availability, and you accept or decline each session request individually. There's no minimum commitment.
What happens if I need to cancel a session?
Tell us through the platform as early as you can and we'll handle rearranging with the family, and you never negotiate with parents directly. Families plan around their sessions, so repeated late cancellations are reviewed.
Are sessions recorded?
Yes, every session is recorded for safeguarding. A recording can be viewed by our safeguarding team, and by the parent who booked that session, for their own child's lesson. Tutors cannot view them, and they're never shared with other tutors, published or used for marketing.
Do I need to bring my own students?
No. That's the point of the platform: parents come to us, and we bring confirmed session requests to you.
Do I have to offer a discount?
No, but you start with two running, so switching them off is something you have to do rather than something you're asked. Every tutor begins with 50% off their rate for a family's first hour with them, funded entirely out of your rate, and a free hour when a family books 10 hours in one go, where you waive your rate and we waive our fee. Both are on your dashboard from the day you're cleared, with what each one costs you in pounds, and you can change either or turn both off before your first booking.
Is there a joining fee, or a cut of my rate?
No. There's no fee to apply or to join, no commission and no listing fee. Our service fee is added on top of your rate to the family's price rather than taken out of it, and so are the employer National Insurance and umbrella costs your pay carries.
So what actually reaches my bank?
You're employed for this work by an umbrella company, which pays you through PAYE. It takes income tax and employee National Insurance out of your pay before you receive it, the way any employer does, so what lands is less than your rate multiplied by the hours you taught. That difference is tax, not a cut taken by us. Where one of your own offers applied to a session, that comes off your rate as well, and it's yours to turn off. The umbrella company gives you a payslip and a P60, and you'll have your own agreement with it.
